How Moodle quizzes work

Moodle is an open-source learning platform used by thousands of universities and schools. Every institution runs its own copy on its own domain, so your Moodle may be called something entirely different, such as “eLearning”, “VLE” or “Campus”.

A Moodle quiz mixes several question types: multiple choice with one or many answers, true/false, matching, short answer, numerical, embedded answers (cloze) and drag-and-drop. The teacher sets a time limit, the number of attempts, question shuffling and the navigation method.

Check the navigation method before you start. With sequential navigation you cannot go back to an earlier question, so think the answer through before you press “Next page”.

What Quizonator does in a Moodle quiz

01

Detects the question on the page

The extension reads the question and its options from the open quiz page. You do not retype anything.

02

Shows the suggestion by the question

The suggested answer is highlighted where you select it, with a short explanation beside it.

03

Matches the way you work

In Default mode you select the answer yourself. Instant mode fills the field, and Invisible mode only reacts to your cursor.

04

Never submits the quiz for you

Finishing the attempt is always your decision. Quizonator does not press “Finish attempt”.

Four ways to work

The same engine, different ways of showing the answer.

Watch the modes on video
Default
A suggestion and an explanation by the question. You select the answer.
Instant
The answer field is filled automatically after analysis.
Invisible
A faint hint that only appears when you hover.
Snapshot
Analysis of a selected part of the screen, including images and formulas.

Good to know before you start

Safe Exam Browser

If the quiz requires Safe Exam Browser or another lockdown browser, Chrome extensions are not available there. Quizonator will not work in that quiz.

Images and formulas

When the question is an image, a scan or a formula, use Snapshot mode: select a part of the screen and read the result in the panel.

AI makes mistakes

A suggestion is not a guarantee. For ambiguous questions, or ones based on your lecture notes, read the explanation and judge the answer yourself.

Your course rules

Your teacher decides which aids are allowed. Check the rules of the quiz before you use any tool.

Frequently asked questions

Does Quizonator work on my university’s Moodle?

Every institution runs Moodle on its own address. Quizonator recognises more than 130 of them, most of them Polish universities. Use the search on this page to check yours. If it is missing, contact us and we will check compatibility.

Which Moodle question types are supported?

Closed questions work best: single and multiple choice, true/false and matching. Text fields and image-based questions are included in PRO and PRO+, and Snapshot mode can analyse any part of the screen.

Do I have to copy questions into ChatGPT?

No. Quizonator reads the question on the quiz page and shows the suggestion in the same place. There is no extra tab or chat window.

Does Quizonator work in Safe Exam Browser?

No. Safe Exam Browser is a separate, locked-down browser that does not run Chrome extensions.

Can I use Quizonator on my phone?

Yes. The Android app has a built-in browser: sign in to Moodle there and start the analysis with one button. The same account works in Chrome and in the app.
